keepy

Privacy policy

Effective 25 October 2026.

Keepy runs only in your browser. It reads the captions the call produces and its chat, on Google Meet during a web call you join, and on Microsoft Teams and Zoom's web client once you turn them on. On Meet it reads them even with the caption bar hidden. It keeps them in your browser's storage for Keepy, and saves files to your Downloads folder when you ask or when a call ends. It has no server, no account and no analytics, and it does not upload your transcripts, pictures or settings to its developer or to anyone else.

What Keepy handles

What Keepy can open

At install, Google Meet and its chat panel. Microsoft Teams and Zoom web pages only after you turn them on in Keepy and Chrome asks you. Turning one off ends an open call within a second and saves its file if anything was kept, and Keepy does not start there on the next page. A caption hook already on that tab stops when you reload it. Chrome keeps the permission until you remove it in the extension's site access.

Where it goes

Nowhere outside your computer. To get captions, Keepy works through the call itself. On Meet it sends caption-language and acknowledgement messages on the call's own connection while the call is up, and it can set the caption language Meet has stored. On Teams it asks the page to start captions. On Zoom it clicks Show Captions only when you press Turn on captions in its panel, and it never answers Zoom's language window for you. Your transcript is never in those messages. The speech-to-text is done by Google, Microsoft or Zoom as part of their captions, exactly as when you turn captions on yourself.

Nothing is sold, shared or transferred, and none of it is used for anything other than giving you your transcript and keeping the troubleshooting log.

Keepy's use of information it receives adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and never used to decide creditworthiness or lending.

Private windows

If you allow Keepy in a private window, a call you join there is saved to your Downloads folder. It is not listed in All transcripts. A private call with content is deleted from Keepy's storage once its file is saved. A call that lasted at most a minute and a half, with at most ten lines, stays up to three minutes after it ends, so a quick rejoin can resume it. A private call with nothing in it is removed the next time Chrome starts. The troubleshooting log leaves out its names, title and link.

Zoom links

If you turn on "Open Zoom links in the browser" in Settings, Keepy redirects Zoom join and start links on zoom.us and zoomgov.com to Zoom's own web client. The setting is off unless you turn it on, and no other site is affected.

The troubleshooting log

Keepy keeps a short log on your computer to help fix problems. It stays there unless you save it as a file from the toolbar popup and choose to share it. It contains names and caption snippets, so share it only with someone you trust.

Keeping and deleting

Except in private windows (see above), Keepy keeps every transcript that has captions, chat or pictures until you delete it. In a normal window, a call that ended with nothing in it, such as joining and leaving at once, is removed on its own, from All transcripts at once and from storage about ten minutes later. No file is ever written for those. Delete a transcript from the transcript page. Removing the extension deletes all of its storage. Files already saved to your Downloads folder are yours: Keepy never changes or deletes them.

Other people in your calls

Keepy doesn't announce itself to the others in a call. You are responsible for telling them and for following the consent rules that apply where you and they are.
